Use ? for blank tiles (max 2 blanks).

Input letters for existing board tiles. Use "_" for rack tiles and "." to denote word edges.

When a board pattern is entered, the options menu is disabled.

The Scrabble Word Finder searches two official tournament dictionaries – NWL23 for North American play and Collins CSW21 for international play – and returns every valid word your rack can form, sorted by face-value score. It handles blank tiles, detects bingo plays (all-tile bonuses marked with a star), and displays point values per letter so you can see exactly where the score comes from.

The board pattern field lets you go beyond simple rack lookups. By describing a section of the board using letters for existing tiles, underscores for rack tiles, and dots for edges, you can find every word that plays through a specific position – which is where the highest-scoring opportunities usually hide. All results include a dictionary definition so you can verify a word before you play it.

Looking to sharpen your game? The complete list of two-letter Scrabble words and the three-letter Scrabble words list are among the most useful things a player can memorize – they open up the board and unlock parallel plays that beginners miss entirely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Scrabble Word Finder free to use? +

Yes, completely free with no account or signup required. There are no limits on searches.

Which Scrabble dictionaries does it support? +

It supports NWL23 (the North American tournament dictionary, about 173,000 words) and Collins CSW21/SOWPODS (the international tournament dictionary, about 267,000 words). You can switch between them with a single click.

Does it work for Words With Friends? +

Most words valid in Scrabble are also valid in Words With Friends, so the tool is useful for both. However, the dictionaries used are official Scrabble lists, not the Words With Friends word list specifically.

How do I use blank tiles in the rack? +

Enter a question mark (?) in your rack to represent a blank tile. It can stand in for any letter. If you have two blanks, add two question marks.

What is the board pattern field? +

It lets you describe a region of the board: letters are tiles already placed, underscores are squares your rack tiles would fill, and dots are blockers – either a board edge or an adjacent word that prevents further extension. This finds words that play through an existing position rather than just from a blank rack.

What is a bingo in Scrabble? +

A bingo is when you use all seven tiles from your rack in a single play, earning a 50-point bonus. The Scrabble Word Finder marks all bingo plays with a star (★) and sorts them to the top.
