Crossword Maker

Make your own crossword

Paste your word list, add clues, and print a worksheet - no sign-up, nothing to install.

Your words

0 words

One word per line. Add a clue after |, a comma, a dash or a tab - whichever your list already uses. Words without a clue still work.

Set higher than your list and LexiLab adds more words that interlock with yours - each one clearly marked, and each one you can reroll, delete, or keep.

Save

A saved link reopens the exact puzzle you see now - months from now, on any device, with no sign-up.

Your browser's print dialog has a "Save as PDF" option, which is how you get a PDF without any extra software.

The Crossword Maker turns any word list into a printable crossword worksheet - paste your words, click "Suggest all missing clues" to pull ready-to-edit definitions from WordNet, and generate a grid in seconds. Set a target word count higher than your list and LexiLab fills the gaps with words that interlock cleanly, each one clearly marked and easy to reroll, delete, or keep.

Every worksheet prints in pure black and white on A4 or US Letter, with an optional word bank and an answer key on its own page. Save a puzzle and get a permanent link that reopens it exactly as generated - or download the JSON, or copy the clue list as plain text.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Crossword Maker free to use? +

Yes, completely free, with no account or signup needed.

Can I print the crossword or save it as a PDF? +

Yes. Print produces a worksheet page plus an optional word bank, followed by an answer key on its own page. Every browser's print dialog includes a "Save as PDF" option, so this covers PDF output with no extra step.

Can I save my crossword and come back to edit it later? +

"Save & get link" produces a permanent URL that reopens the exact puzzle you generated, even months later. Opening that link shows it read-only; click "Duplicate and edit" to make changes without altering the original saved link. You can also download the puzzle as a JSON file as a backup.

How many words can I use? +

Between 3 and 50 words, each 3 to 20 letters long. Above roughly 30 words the grid tends to get sparse, since not every word can interlock with the others.

Do I have to write my own clues? +

No. "Suggest all missing clues" fills in a definition-based clue for every word with an empty clue, pulled from WordNet. Suggested clues stay fully editable, and any clue you edit yourself is never overwritten by a later suggestion or by Regenerate.

Can I set a target word count and have LexiLab add more words? +

Yes. Set "Target word count" higher than your list and LexiLab adds words that interlock with yours, each one clearly marked as added, with its own clue suggested automatically. Any added word can be rerolled, deleted, or kept as your own.

Does it work on a phone, and can it be solved online? +

The editor works on a phone, though a larger screen is easier for building a puzzle. Solving online is not yet supported - v1 is print-only, built for a worksheet you print, hand out, or project for others to solve on paper.
